What is the
SAS ?
The "Les Sables - Les Açores - Les Sables" race represents a long-distance sailing challenge, commencing from Les Sables d'Olonne. Spanning a distance of 2600 nautical miles, sailors will embark on a round-trip journey towards the Azores. This solo maritime adventure tests the resilience and skills of each participant on 6.50-meter sailboats. I have chosen the Nicomatic 1067 for this challenge, a sailboat I have previously sailed during the Mini Transat 2023, adding a familiar dimension to this race.
Our Boat
An Exceptional Prototype
Our vessel for this adventure is a 6.50 prototype foiling boat, designed to lift off from as little as 8 knots of wind. This technological marvel, capable of reaching peak speeds of 25.4 knots, is the work of Sam Manuard, a renowned architect in the sailing world. It was co-designed by Benoit Marie, a standout figure in sailing, who brings his expertise and knowledge of the marine environment to optimize every detail of the boat.
Key Dates
The offshore race "Les Sables - Les Açores - Les Sables" promises thrilling moments with important dates not to be missed. The starting signal will be given from Les Sables d'Olonne on July 19, marking the beginning of this crossing. Navigators will venture into the waters of the Atlantic, heading towards the Azores, where a stopover awaits them for a few days of rest and recovery. After this break, they will set sail again to begin the return journey to the port of Les Sables d'Olonne. This solo race, full of challenges, will span approximately three weeks, providing sailors and sailing enthusiasts with an exceptional experience to closely follow.
The Road
The sailors' journey offers an exceptional maritime expedition across the Atlantic. Starting from Les Sables d'Olonne, the sailors bravely venture into the tumultuous waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Their destination is the Azores archipelago, located in the heart of the North Atlantic. The race is not simply about reaching the Azores, as participants will then embark on an equally demanding return to Les Sables d'Olonne, completing a circular journey that tests their endurance, expertise, and ability to master the elements of the sea.
Our Goal
My main goal for this edition of the "Les Sables - Les Açores - Les Sables" race is to navigate exceptionally, leveraging the latest technological advancements. I aspire to master a foiling boat under autopilot capable of steering the boat in flight, even downwind. In this pursuit, the quest for victory in this competition remains a constant aspiration. My overall objective is to demonstrate consistent excellence, positioning this adventure as a crucial milestone in my quest for performance.
